The Next New Thing

       In my opinion, the next "new media" will be video chat with random people from around the world. It's like a Skype, but nobody knows who can chat with other users. It might be chance to meet new people from video chat. Nowadays, there are a lot of chat applications with others, but I haven't seen yet video chat from others who don't know each other. For example, if one of the users need to set the alarm in the morning, another user can call him or her instead of the alarm. Furthermore, if somebody want to get advise from others, he or she should choose in the category of people who can solve the problem like advisors. I think it will be helped for lonely people or everybody.

Our Class Wiki - So Far

       When I did my assignment, I used our class wiki. I researched the class wiki at first and I looked at lectures of New Media. After reading all of each lectures, I tried to edit the wiki. I searched New Media in Social Networking that they have detail description, and it helped me a lot when I wrote my term paper.

P2P File Sharing

    

         File sharing is the public or private sharing of computer data or space in a network with various levels of access privilege. While files can easily be shared outside a network, the term file sharing almost always means sharing files in a network, even if in a small local area network. For P2P file sharing is the process of sharing and transferring digital files from one computer to another. P2P file sharing could play an even larger role in your computer activities in the future. It can be an efficient way to share large files with others, such as personal video recordings or large sets of photos. For example, commom P2P examples are Skype, BitTorrent, and Napster. In my opinion, Skype is most famous P2P file sharing that I can send instant messaging and voice communication. According to "Content producers should take advantage of P2P, not fear it," written by NMA staff explained that we should spend time to think what a new media age might look like that its political and social shape might be. Moreover, it will be focus on revenue.  

Privacy & Confidentiality

       

          Nowadays, privacy and confidentiality are big issues in the world because some hackers found our information from Facebook, and they sell the information. Similarly, if celebrities use social media such as Instagram, other people found every single major and minor detail about them, so losing privacy is a side effect of using social media. New Media has a lot of advantage to people. However, I think privacy and confidentiality is too weak for people.

Advice to Baruch College

        
           If  I was hired by Baruch College to use New Media to improve the College, I should advertise college that using digital marketing. I will post about introducing the college on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to other people who browse colleges to transfer or apply.  Another thing is that I would recommend professors to make lessons like online at least one day. Then, the video which about lessons makes students watch at home.  

Creativity and New Media

I created my avatar from Sims. When I created it, I spent more time than my expectation because Sims wanted to make an avatar specifically. Therefore, I could think about how am I looking like this. I felt like I learn the basics of creativity. I tried to looks like me, but Sims did not have enough appearance about Asian. However, it was a great time that I could aware of my self.

Creativity

      From the article, "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?" by Brooks Barnes described that the Walt Disney Company bear videos which YouTube user posted the cartoon parody to the song "Crank That." In my opinion, even the user infringe a copyright of the Disney cartoon, it became popular more and more because a lot of people watch the video. After people watching the video, they might be interested in the Disney cartoon. Therefore, the Walt Disney company gain a big issue even though they did not make a lot of efforts to advertise. They were using the effect of new media that both of the Disney and YouTube could became so popular from the user's creativity.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

        From virtual worlds, people can communicate with gesture, graphical images, and text. Virtual worlds have several types that such as Second Life and The Sims.

        Second Life is what we watched Youtube. From the Youtube "The Office: Second Life is the same", he explained that Second Life is a game, but it did not need to get a score. It was just same as his real life except he was flying. Virtual world can be used such as education and research. People can try new things in virtual worlds because trying new things might be dangerous for people. If we want virtual worlds to foster creativity, we should try to solve the disadvantages of virtual time what we read from our assign reading. After people solve the obstacles about avatars and detail a virtual environment, virtual worlds can be better and same exactly about real world.

         In my opinion, the Virtual worlds will develop more and more. In the future, people might be using virtual reality gear and games consoles to virtual world's games.

Blog about Twitter

         In my opinion, most students only use the Blackboard, when their professor want to use for assignment or online courses. Blackboard also can be kind of social networking because students upload posts then other students reply comments. It is similar to Twitter. People posts what they really think about in limit words. Only different thing is that Blackboard are used to be only in a class discussion. However, I cannot edit or delete what I wrote on Blackboard. There is no way to edit posts. Twitter is an online community that students can create their own Twitter profiles. Moreover, they have uniqueness that people text message up to 140 characters to all their followers. 

Social Networking Sites

         
         I only joined social media that I usually do not spend time on social networking. However, I can find Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn can be useful for people. In my opinion, most popular social media is Facebook because everybody has their own ID and this media can share of any content, stories and news. Facebook's e-commerce is already advanced briskly on Store Apps. Twitter and LinkedIn is focus on people's ideas and thinking, and other people re-tweets of follows. Moreover, this is using for educational tools like our class. Using LinkedIn and Twitter is not a waste of time because sharing of stories and ideas can be a good information. On the other hand, people have to upload a picture when they use the Instagram because Instagram share people's pictures which are about like restaurants, appearances and display Ads.

Social Networking

             There are many benefits of social networking technologies to society. If people want to go to travel, they can find every information from the social networking because other people who already visited the place, reviewed and uploaded pictures about the place such as restaurants, hotels, sightseeing. We can know that how the restaurants were great and delicious. Likewise, we can connect to people in worldwide. Even though, they live out of America, we can see their life style from what they upload the pictures and information on the Internet.


             On the other hand, social networking has disadvantage for people. For example, some companies want to see their worker's abilities from only their blogs or computer skills. From the Jeriko forum (https://collaboration.opengroup.org/jericho/), the company only want to solve their work from the blogs. In my opinion, people's characters and personalities are more important than their blogs. It seems to be unfair, when the company decide their workers' skill from the blogs. Moreover, social networking does not help people's worry. From the youtube about Facebook in real life, I don't think they talked sincerely, and they just talked what they want to say each other. It is just showing off and pretension to other people.

            Furthermore, social networking might be used in dark side. Social networking does not have privacy that if somebody uploaded a picture which the person wear swimwear on the beach, anonymous just gave sexual harassment easily. However, we cannot find any reason that why he or she said like sexual harassment. Then, it makes people get a broken heart.

Blogs vs. Wikis

Compare and contrast blogs and wikis. Comment on the importance of convergence in today's networked world. How can blogs be used for collaboration? Can you think of a new use for a wiki that has not been done yet?

        There are significant differences between blogs and wikis. Blogs are often updated website, but wikis are webpages, and visitors can edit. Blogs are personal that most blogs are managed by one person or small groups. On the other hand, non specified people edit and manage wikis, and it is allowed to use any anonymous. Moreover, wikis are collaborative that it is possible to use for group projects or research projects which have to do together. However, blogs are usually used individual things that visitors can only per review and feedback. 

       Nowadays, most people connect from networked world such as Instagram, facebook, blogs, and wikis. These social medias are really important for us because we can share information what we want to get. From Michael Scott's You Tube, we can recognized that why Wikipedia is an important thing in networked world today. We can earn the best possible information what we exactly wanted from Wikipedia. 

       I believe that blogs can be used for collaboration even though blogs are personal things. When a person post and update the blogs, visitors should comment about the post. They can share the information and their own ideas on blogs.  

Impact of New Media use on Children(Project Description)

     
           Nowadays, a smartphone is the most important thing in people's lives because people can obtain facilities from smartphones as much as new media develops such as paying bills, utilize bank system, buying something, watching TV. A lot of parents allow their children have smartphones even though these various functions are not useful for children because parents believe that smartphone can protect from having an emergency for their children. However, the children use their phones for playing game more than what their parents expected. They are addicted to smartphones. As we see it, we can find smartphone can positive and negative influence on children. For positive effect, some schools start to study with Ipad that they don't have to bring heavy paper books anymore. Moreover, they are able to do their homework everywhere. On the other hand, smartphone affects sociality for children because they do not need to spend time with their friends. They only depend on playing game from their smartphones.
